A few questions we’ve been asked…
We get asked a number of questions frequently, so it made sense to have an FAQ on our website! If you want to ask a question, then get in touch or send us some feedback anonymously!

The fans’ voice of AFC Bournemouth.

Back of the Net began as a podcast in 2016, developing into a Youtube channel in 2019 – it was founded by Sam Davis and Sean Barker.
Back of the Net is run by Sam Davis and Tom Jordan, with frequent contributions from Tigz, Ben Phillips, Neil Dawson and Jeff Hayward – all life-long Cherries supporters. You can read more about us here.
Back of the Net is a passion project. Thankfully, we are fortunate to have jobs which can shift accordingly to our needs in providing AFC Bournemouth related content. As a result, we consider ourselves very lucky to be able to get around documenting Cherries matches – home and away.
Of course! Our cameras are located at every home and away match – both inside and the stadium and outside for some post-match reaction. If you wish to feature on other recordings, then please pop us a message as we always welcome new contributors!
No it isn’t. We remain a passion project and have no desire to make it full-time in its current state, however should it ever reach a point where this becomes a possibility, we might consider it.
We have an army of 200+ incredible supporters, whose names appear at the end of our videos, donating from as little as £3 per month to keep the channel going. We also gain limited money from Youtube ad revenue, audio podcast income from Sport Social, and sporadic sponsorships across our platforms. All monies made from the channel go back into Back of the Net – we are not for profit.
We often get emailed this, however it is not something we are in a position to do. This is not a full-time career for us.
We are open to sponsorship offers, so get in touch and we’ll have a chat about your requirements.
Please note that we recently made a decision to avoid “direct” sponsorships with gambling companies. However, for the sustainability of Back of the Net, we do have a caveat to this, as we explain in our Should We Accept Payment From Betting Companies article.
No, Back of the Net is wholly independent. We buy our own match tickets, home and away, and receive no favours through producing the podcast and Youtube channel. We occasionally have access to produce features such as interviews or Performance Centre tours, however these are seldom. We believe that being independent is a strength, and enables us to be unbiased with our thoughts and opinions.
Whilst we used to regularly host shows live, it requires a lot of planning and free time – something we do not have much of.
We do miss the interactive elements of it, however we encourage people to join in through our busy Telegram group, which is accessible through our Ko-fi monthly membership. For the 2026/27 season however, you can interact on the live shows over at Cherries Red Army.
Yes! Back of the Net have accounts on TikTok, Instagram, X, and a Facebook Page – tap the Share/Follow Us link at the top of this page to view all of them.
We also have a Facebook Group, to which all Cherries supporters are invited – this is however smaller than other groups. Rather than accepting every new member, we vet each participant, because a large number join just to post Bournemouth-related articles which link to their own generic sport websites. It’s ultra important to us that the experience across all our platforms is authentic and real.
No, we don’t – there’s not enough time in the day to be arguing with strangers! But we do share a lot of our personal content via Back of the Net’s Telegram group, of which you can become a member by supporting us monthly.
We have appeared on the show a few times, however invitations are usually short-notice, and involves travelling to their studios just outside Manchester – a ten-hour round trip with three hours recording time in the middle – all to speak about AFC Bournemouth for little more than a few minutes.
For appearances such as this, it has previously been common that we can charge a modest “appearance fee”, which goes a little way to cover losing a day of work, however, this no longer applies – therefore we sadly have had to decline.
We did take part one year, thanks to some followers who generously tagged us in to a few social media posts from the Football Content Awards. As a result, we attended their ceremony in Manchester, using it as a chance to bounce ideas off other content creators.
However we are not in the game of seeking out votes, plus we no longer align ourselves with the commercial approach of the event organisers.
Sports Social is the largest podcast network in Europe, and they chose Back of the Net to represent AFC Bournemouth. They support our audio podcast hosting and management – as such, you may hear their adverts at the start of a show on either Apple Podcasts or Spotify.
Yeah, a bit! It’s not something that I’m overly comfortable with, however the desire to produce raw and engaging content with match-going fans supersedes my thoughts about how cringey it is.
I go to games to enjoy them, and to savour every moment. The key for me is to do it in an authentic and non-obtrusive way. If I felt that vlogging ever detracted from the experience – for me or for others, I’d stop.
We no longer recommend the away pubs and often will try different local haunts for a bit of variety, therefore it’s worth regularly checking the forums and social media to find out where Cherries fans are congregating for an upcoming away day.
We absolutely are not, so don’t ask us whether we’ve heard anything about potential players or stadium developments! Whilst we have relationships with some journalists, we want to react authentically, as fans – therefore we do not spend our time bombarding them and/or fishing for exclusives – that’s their job.
